Good news in schools

"Black students in Texas were among the best in the nation on a national math test this year ..."

From: http://newsone.com/nation/good-news-nation/news-one-staff/texas-black-students-rank-among-best-on-national-math-test/

All students at the Urban Prep school for African-American boys in Chicago have graduated and been accepted into colleges. Cogratulations young men!!!!!

"Ask Rayvaughn Hines what college he was accepted to and he'll answer with a question. "Do you want me to name them all?"

"College is omnipresent at the school. Before the students begin their freshman year, they take a feild trip to Northwestern University. Every student is assigned a college counselor the day the steps foot in the school."

"The school offers an extended day ... and more than double the number of English credits usually needed to graduate."

God Bless The Child

=========================
The above video is Nina Simone "Ooh Child"
=========================

God Bless the Child
Billie Holiday
Them that's got shall get
Them that's not shall lose
So the Bible said and it still is news
Mama may have, Papa may have
But God bless the child that's got his own
That's got his own

Yes, the strong gets more
While the weak ones fade
Empty pockets don't ever make the grade
Mama may have, Papa may have
But God bless the child that's got his own
That's got his own

Money, you've got lots of friends
Crowding round the door
When you're gone, spending ends
They don't come no more
Rich relations give
Crust of bread and such
You can help yourself
But don't take too much
Mama may have, Papa may have
But God bless the child that's got his own
That's got his own

Mama may have, Papa may have
But God bless the child that's got his own
That's got his own
He just worry 'bout nothin'
Cause he's got his own

They took God out of school

This was a forward I received:

SOMEBODY'S RAISING THEIR KID RIGHT!

One Nation, 'Under God.'

One day a 6 year old girl was sitting in a

classroom. The teacher was going to explain

evolution to the children. The teacher asked

a little boy: Tommy do you see the tree

outside?

TOMMY: Yes.

TEACHER: Tommy, do you see the grass

outside?

TOMMY: Yes.

TEACHER: Go outside and look up and see

if you can see the sky.

TOMMY: Okay. (He returned a few minutes

later) Yes, I saw the sky.

TEACHER: Did you see God up there?

TOMMY: No.

TEACHER: That's my point. We can't see

God because he isn't there. Possibly he just

doesn't exist.

A little girl spoke up and wanted to ask the

boy some questions.

The teacher agreed and the little girl asked

the boy: Tommy, do you see the tree

outside?

TOMMY: Yes.

LITTLE GIRL: Tommy do you see the grass

outside?

TOMMY: Yessssss!

LITTLE GIRL: Did you see the sky?

TOMMY: Yessssss!

LITTLE GIRL: Tommy, do you see the

teacher?

TOMMY: Yes

LITTLE GIRL: Do you see her brain?

TOMMY: No

LITTLE GIRL: Then according to what we

were taught today in school, she possibly

may not even have one!

(You Go Girl!)

FOR WE WALK BY FAITH, NOT BY SIGHT'

II CORINTHIANS 5:7

Don't forget to pass this on! I love this one.

Everyone should send this to everyone they

know, especially today with prayer restricted

in schools.

Forward if you believe in GOD!!

Teach the Children lyrics

Tony Rebel Teach The Children

I say the words of your mouth
And the meditation of your heart
Be acceptable
Always know that you're gonna be responsible, seen
And I say yuh find yourself With an instrumental influence
Use it with a positive sense
Or else yuh gonna pay the consequence
Rebel speaks again

I say be careful what you teach the little children
Make sure a nuh something to hurt them
Mind what yuh say to mi sista
She could be the next Prime Minister
(I say) fi watch what yuh say to mi daughta
'cause in the long run, she could be your doctor
How yu no fi mention dat to mi son, Don
A me no want me little boy fi turn a gunman

Still yuh never listen
Yuh ears must be missin
Every day yuh say yuh gun a shine an a glisten
Yuh writing fi the screamer and de lighter and de whistle
It look like yuh forget all about God's blessing
De wisdom from your mouth
Meditation of your heart
Should be free from negative of every sort
Want a good cow
Yuh better grow a good calf
Be careful what ya inject inna de youth dem heart (and just)

I say be careful what you teach the little children
Make sure a nuh something to hurt them
Mind what yuh say to mi sista
She could be the next Prime Minister
(I say) fi watch what yuh say to mi daughta
'cause in the long run, she could be your doctor
How yu no fi mention dat to mi son, Don
A me no want me little boy fi turn a gunman

Mista Tie an Mista Jacket
You Mr false prophet
Leading the children astray,
Mi a beg unnu fi stop it
Dust upon an rocket
For put it in yuh pocket
Give the people water fi carry inna basket
So if ya find yourself
With a instrumental influence
Everytime you use it, use your conscience
The seed where yuh sow
It is no accident
And nevah yuh nevah yuh nevah yuh shall escape the judgement

Watch what you teach the little children
Make sure it not something to hurt them
Mind what yuh say to mi sista
She could be the next Prime Minister
(I say) fi watch what yuh say to mi daughta
'cause in the long run, she could be your doctor
And yu no fi mention dat to mi son, ((Dan?))
And me no want me little boy fi turn a gunman

If yuh say yuh love di youth
And that is the truth
We will find out 'cause you are judged by the fruit
If ya teach dem fi shoot
And turn prostitute
Hang upon your shoulder, never dilute
Tommorow man and woman
Is the youth of today
So understand that you should not lead dem astray
You responsibility
Is to to show dem the way
And if you dont then--
Somebody, somebody have fi pay (so)

Watch what you teach the little children
Make sure it not something to hurt them
Mind what yuh say to mi sista
She could be the next Prime Minister
How yuh fi say dem ((naw?)) things to mi daughta
When in the long run, she could be your doctor
No bother mention dat to mi son, ((Dan?))
And me no want me little boy fi turn a gunman

Mista Prime Minister, Mista Speaker
Mista Opposition Leader
Linguist, Journalist, Dj's and Singer
Producer, Smooth operator
And de radio announcer
Preacher, Teacher, Mother and Father
How much ah tell yuh
When me tell you mi friend
You want me repeat meself all over again
Yuh want the future nice
And yuh don't know how
Yuh bettah teach the yout right
And yuh better do it now (so)
(repeat chorus and fade)

"and I blame my teachers for letting me run to fast" --- Alana Davis

Turtle by Alana Davis
Little boy wishes he wasn't small
He'd give is turtle to be six feet tall
He's got photos of Shaq and Ewing up on his wall
And he'd try a jump shot but he's afraid he'll fall down
Little girl wants to fall in love
Dressed up like her mother in white evening gloves
She pretends tells her friends she's got somewhere to go
They don't ask her where so they'll never know how she feels
With a shorter past there's a greater hurry
Let the moment last there's no need to worry
We should be living for today or tomorrow anyway
And don't ask for the world on a plate
Cause you just might get it
Don't ever say it's too late you know you'll regret it because
Just when you're sure your life can change right before your eyes
A mother's thinking of her little boy
Left home at sixteen back in '84
He's got a dog named Lucy says she's all he needs
Lucy knows better she hears all his dreams
When you search yourself when you get down to it
If you know yourself you know you'll get through it
So start living for today or tomorrow anyway
And don't ask for the world on a plate
Cause you just might get it
Don't ever say it's too late you know you'll regret it because
Just when you're sure your life can change right before your eyes
With a shorter past there's a greater hurry
Let the moment last there's no need to worry
Start living for today or tomorrow anyway...
Just when you're sure you life can
Change right before your eyes
Right before your eyes

I love this song (but I love all AD songs) but the part about the girl playing dress up reminds me of when I was subbing for an elementary class (I don't remember the grade, maybe 1st or 2nd) and the kids were in "centers." These two little girls, I believe they were in the "play house" center. And this one little girl told the other that she was going to be the substitute teacher. LOL Isn't that so cute??!!! (Apparently, I was the inspiration for her wanting to take on this role, pat myself on the back:). I could not EVEN make this up. I wouldn't believe she said that, if I didn't see it myself. Kids and their imaginations!!!!! After she said that, she kind of looked up at me, as if to say "is that ok?" .... cool with me ... play on!!!!

With a shorter past there's a greater hurry
Let the moment last there's no need to worry

Don't rush it, little girl, I had noooooo idea how hard this job was going to be!!!!!

It's sad that we all grow up, and get so involved in our busy jobs, that we forget the importance of playtime!!!!

She does more than just drive a SCHOOL BUS

Excerpt from www.oprah.com

Forty-five years after the "I Have a Dream" speech, ordinary citizens across the country are giving it all they've got to keep Dr. King's vision for a better future alive—including a Los Angeles bus driver named Tanya.

"About eight years ago, I was driving a rough route," she says. "Most of the kids on my bus were known for getting suspended, kicked out of school."

Recognizing their daily struggle, Tanya decided to try a special approach. "I learned to speak to my students everyday," she says. "I learned to smile at them, I learned to give them a hug if they needed a hug. I learned to give them encouragement, and from that I built trust."

With each day, Tanya became more and more invested in the future of her students. "I asked each one of them to show me their report card. And I was shocked to find out the majority of my students were failing," she says. "I said, 'How is it that I'm bringing you to school everyday and still you're failing? I don't understand.' I decided to challenge each student to bring up their grades."

Five weeks after Tanya's challenge, 54 of her students hit the books and improved their grades. As a reward, Tanya took them to a place they'd never been before—a marine biology cruise just a short ride away from the inner city.

"That was where a few of my students pulled me to the side and said, 'Miss Walters, I didn't realize there was a life outside my community,'" she says. "And that gave me the strength to know that I had a purpose in life."

Tanya says she decided to max out her credit cards, buy a bus and set out on a journey to expose teens to a world beyond their crime-ridden neighborhoods. "By having the opportunity to travel, now they're having the opportunity to dream, and they're able to see that there is a place out there for [them] somewhere. Not just [their] community," Tanya says.

In 2006, Tanya enlisted the help of fellow bus drivers and volunteers to start Godparents Youth Organization so she could offer her classroom on wheels to children all over America. In just a few years, Tanya has taken students to America's most important civil rights landmarks and museums across 26 states.

Tanya says understanding where they come from helps the kids envision brighter futures. "They're able to link history together, and I think that's what our youth need right now is to know that people came from all walks of background and [have] struggled for all different reasons."

Sixteen-year-old Shamika had little hope for the future when she took her first road trip with Tanya, but she says she gained a whole new perspective. "This really opened my eyes and explained to me what my morals should be. It put my priorities back in order," she says. "Most of my friends over here are gangbangers. They're caught up into this lifestyle. Martin Luther King, he never showed any type of violence, and if he can do it—if he can do it—I can do it."

On her most recent bus trip, Shamika acted as a mentor for younger children. "They do count on me to step up and be a leader and let the other kids that are new know right from wrong," Shamika says.

Tanya believes her greatest victory has been helping young people like Shamika. "They go through life, and they think that they can't achieve. They think that they won't amount to anything. And it's not such!" Tanya says. "My goal, when I bring our kids together, is for them to dream again, for them to bring back hope. Because when you have hope, you have determination."

A Baby's Cry

I saw this on Oprah:

After testing her baby language theory on more than 1,000 infants around the world, Priscilla says there are five words that all babies 0–3 months old say—regardless of race and culture:

Neh="I'm hungry"
Owh="I'm sleepy"
Heh="I'm experiencing discomfort"
Eair="I have lower gas"
Eh="I need to burp"

Listen to the secret language of babies! (from www.oprah.com )

Those "words" are actually sound reflexes, Priscilla says. "Babies all around the world have the same reflexes, and they therefore make the same sounds," she says. If parents don't respond to those reflexes, Priscilla says the baby will eventually stop using them.Priscilla recommends that parents listen for those words in a baby's pre-cry before they start crying hysterically. She says there is no one sound that's harder to hear than others because it varies by individual. She also says some babies use some words more than others.

The Dunstan Baby Language DVD is currently available. Visit www.dunstanbaby.com to order your copy.

Work brought home from school

When I look at some of the work turned in by students, it makes me think .. are parents looking at the work their kids turn in????? Sloppy, incomplete, below average work. Parents need to make it a habit from day one to look at the work their kids bring home [graded work]. Stop the sloppy carelessness before it gets worse!!!!!! Give them homework!!!!

Believe me, there's ALWAYS room for improvement.

Look for misspelled words and make them write those a few times. Teach them to do things right [because you KNOW they can] the first time, or they'll have to make corrections. Trust me, kids have PLENTY of time in class to do good work. Often they rush through it or are just careless.

Expect higher standards from your kids ... it will help them succeed in high school and college when they develop good habits early on.

Stop by the school, before or after school, and take a look at your (elementary age) kid's desk .. is it neat or messy? Now's a good time to learn and practice organization skills. I see so many ripped bags, torn folders falling apart, distroyed school supplies .... that tells me that the kids don't care how much their parents spent to buy nice new supplies for them and that the parents aren't telling them that it's unacceptable to tear up these things they need and use everyday.

WHAT A DIFFERENCE IT WOULD MAKE, if more parents used their day off (every once in a while) to observe their kids at school. As a substitute I see sooooo many discipline problems and often I see the same students over and over displaying consistant behavior problems.

I often wonder what a POSITIVE change it would make to have cameras in the classroom. It doesn't bother me, because I know I'm doing my job. But many many kids are NOT doing what they should be doing. I'm only one person, but I would like the parents to see EXACTLY what their kids are doing and do what they need to do to correct the problems (which start at home). Parents have NO IDEA what their kids are doing when parental eyes are not watching. Always in the back of their minds: [to teacher or sub] "you're not my mom or dad."

To be continued...

School lunch

Here's a thought: Do your kids have enough time to eat their lunch? When I monitor lunch at the elementary school level, I'm reminded of my days as a picky eater. Young pallates are discovering what they like and don't like and if no one is there to tell them "Clean your plate" .. then they won't. I see lots and lots of full plates when it's time to clean up and leave. Kids know what they want to eat and don't want to eat. It reminds me of a time when I was in the hospital (for a short time) and the nurse told me to take some pink medicine. I told her I didn't like it. Now, I don't know how I knew, but I knew, and when I made an attempt to take it, I threw it up.

Keep this in mind. There's only a handful of adults to monitor several tables full of kids. Talkative kids will spend the majority of their time talking. Some kids will spend a lot of time playing with their food, and of course the pickiest kids will spend most of the time picking over their food. Food is the fuel to get them through the rest of the school day. It is in their best interest to eat as much as possible. Parents should remind their kids how important lunch is and to use that [short] time to eat. Typically they will have less than 45-minutes. There's the commute time to get to the cafeteria, the time in line, and the clean up time. Not to mention the disorganization and chaos that happens when there's a sub.

Something else I noticed was that some schools have recess after lunch and some have recess at another time. I'm in favor of not having recess after lunch. It allows the food to digest and also the kids won't burn off all the food's energy so fast.

Homeless to Harvard - The Liz Murray Story (2003)

Liz Murray was raised in poverty by drug-addicted parents. Though they loved her, they were unable to care for her and Liz ended up living on the streets by the age of 15. Profoundly affected by her mother's AIDS-related death, Liz forced herself to look at her future and make some significant changes. Her prospects were dismal, yet she turned her life around by going back to high school. After earning her diploma in just two years, while still homeless, Liz won a New York Times scholarship for needy students, which enabled her to attend Harvard University.

Diploma mills

Fake Degrees: Exposing the Diploma Mill Problem
by Christina Couch

"Fake credentials are serious. This is a big problem." Imagine hiring a lawyer or visiting a doctor whose degree was obtained not after years of schooling and hard work, but by shelling out the right amount of money to a diploma mill.

...exposed more than 80 fake universities, including St. Regis University ...

...you can purchase credentials for literally any and every profession as well as your very own fake transcript, recommendations, and personalized diploma mill operation to go with it...

... the enormous reach of St. Regis University's illegitimacy (more than 6,000 fake college degrees--40 percent of them to foreign nationals seeking entry into the United States--were conferred) ...

... bringing incidents of scholastic fraud to light....

... Gollin's continued fight against worthless diplomas has prevented many scam-artist doctors, surgeons, security personnel, engineers, and Ph.D.s from entering the job market....

There's a book about all of this: Degree Mills: The Billion-Dollar Industry That Has Sold Over a Million Fake Diplomas

For Bennett Packman, a physical education teacher in Miami-Dade County, Florida, doing something meant temporary unemployment. When Packman was asked to teach a driver's education course he was not certified to teach, he was encouraged by the school principal to skip the 100 hours required to gain the proper certification and instead enroll in a one-day course through a distance education provider, Move On Towards Education and Training (MOTET). When Packman became suspicious of MOTET's validity, he refused to enroll and requested a transfer to a different high school. When his request was denied, he refused to go to work. "I couldn't work with someone who would trap me into signing student waivers--it would be fraud on my part," he says.

MOTET was investigated eventually, and officials discovered that the organization had provided false credentials to more than 650 teachers in Florida. Additionally, through partnerships with at least five colleges and universities, MOTET had awarded illegitimate degrees to more than 750 students, including two congressmen and one state senator. Today, MOTET has been shut down, and its founder is serving prison time.
Packman says that despite the turmoil, he's glad he stepped forward. "I want kids to have teachers that they feel are role models, that they can emulate," he comments.

..."When I started this job in 1999, the only two states that had laws about what degrees were legitimate were Oregon and New Jersey," Contreras states...

...tarnished the reputation of legitimate schools...

However, any degree-granting institution worth attending should be accredited by at least one neutral authority. Accrediting bodies such as the American Bar Association, American Dental Association, and lesser-known organizations such as the Western Association of Schools and Colleges provide independent assessment of the classes and degrees offered by schools. The U.S. Department of Education's office of postsecondary education has a Web site listing various accrediting organizations.

If it seems too easy to earn the degree a particular school is offering, it's probably not worth the paper it's printed on.
-----
Wow, great article ... it just doesn't pay to take shortcuts!!!!!!!!!!
Funny thing is .. next to the article, was a list of "University Partners", which was a list of online degree "schools" ... one of them being the heavily advertised University of Phoenix Online (which I don't know if it's a degree mill or not), and it listed Regis University which sounds a lot like the St. Regis University mentioned in the article. I know that the list was just advertising, because I recognized it for what it was, and they were outside links. To someone else it might look like part of the article. But why advertise something that's contrary to the message you're trying to get out? Actually, http://encarta.msn.com is HEAVY with advertising.

Wake Up Everybody

Wake Up Everybody by Harold Melvin performed by Teddy Pendergrass

Wake up everybody, no more sleepin' in bed
No more backward thinkin, time for thinkin' ahead
The world has changed so very much
From what it used to be
there is so much hatred, war, an' poverty

Wake up all the teachers, time to teach a new way
Maybe then they'll listen, to whatcha have to say
Cause they're the ones who's coming up
and the world is in their hands
when you teach the children, teach 'em the very best you can.

Chorus
The world won't get no better ]
if we just let it be [no, no, no, nah nah nah
The world won't get no better
we gotta change it, YEAH, just you and me.

Wake up all the doctors, make the ol' people well
They're the ones who suffer, an' who catch all the hell
But they don't have so very long, before the Judgement Day
So won'tcha make them happy, before they pass away.

Wake up all the builders, time to build a new land
I know we can do it, if we all lend a hand
The only thing we have to do, is put it in our mind
Surely things will work out, they do it every time.
Repeat Chorus

Students find ring tone adults can't hear

Students find ring tone adults can't hear (yahoo news 6/12/06)

NEW YORK - Students are using a new ring tone to receive messages in class -- and many teachers can't even hear the ring. Some students are downloading a ring tone off the Internet that is too high-pitched to be heard by most adults. With it, high schoolers can receive text message alerts on their cell phones without the teacher knowing.

As people age, many develop what's known as aging ear -- a loss of the ability to hear higher-frequency sounds.

The ring tone is a spin-off of technology that was originally meant to repel teenagers -- not help them. A Welsh security company developed the tone to help shopkeepers disperse young people loitering in front of their stores while leaving adults unaffected. The company called their product the "Mosquito."

Donna Lewis, a teacher in Manhattan, says her colleague played the ring for a classroom of first-graders -- and all of them could hear it, while the adults couldn't hear anything.

School Lunch Reform

The Learning Channel showed an outstanding program on tv called Jamie's School Lunch Project

http://www.feedmebetter.com/

Here's my summary: Well known celebrity chef, Jamie Oliver goes into British school cafeterias to eliminate unhealthy and processed foods (as he calls it "reconstituted"). He successfully convinced school systems to change the menus, which would also mean increase school budgeting for the food. He successfully (with lots of resistance) convinced the kids to eat the food. In the short run, the kids should be able to think and perform better in the classroom, and feel healthier. In the long run ... less obesity, diabetes, and other health problems. He not only encountered a lot of resistance from kids but also school systems and the companies who provide the food, and the cafeteria ladies who had to learn to cook properly ... real food that you don't just heat up.

Schools should teach (by example) how to eat healthy!!!! For example, if you don't have recycling bins in your schools then how can you teach kids the importance of recycling and protecting the environment? If you're trying to teach about the 4 food groups and proper proportions for each group, then that should be represented in what you feed the kids everyday.

Just found this article 6/9/06 "Pa. schools weigh parental fast-food ban" (On yahoo news)

Parents who visit their children at lunch would be required to eat school food rather than bring the children fast-food lunches under a proposed wellness policy in the Palmyra Area School District.

And this article from Time.com also addresses these issues: Retooling School Lunch How two communities are working to serve kids fresher, healthier food--and then actually get them to eat it By AMANDA BOWER

...schools are under pressure ... to serve something more wholesome than greasy burgers and Tater Tots.

Across the U.S., administrators are banning deep-fat fryers from cafeteria kitchens. Sodamakers agreed last month to stop selling their sugary, fizzy products in schools.

But bans are easy compared with changing how kids eat. How do you eliminate junk yet create meals that stay within tight budgets and satisfy fickle tastes?

We pay homage to the man who paved the way
For freedom, justice and equality
To make the world a better place for you and me
It's a holiday, it's a gathering
For the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King

Dr. King tried to love somebody
(Do you wanna love somebody)
For his sake put your hate away, take a day
(Take a day to love somebody)
Don't play on the Holiday, work to find a better way
(Everybody love somebody now)

Oh, everybody sing
For Martin Luther King
Oh, let freedom ring (That's right)
For Martin Luther King, now sing

Holiday! Holiday!King Holiday!
Not a day just for some
It's a day for everyone

He had a dream now it's up to you
He had a dream now it's up to you
To see it through, to make it come true
Now do it

Who do we thank for teaching us
That we all have the strength to love
Mmm, we thank the Prince of Non-Violence
For showing us the way

Dr. King tried to love somebody(Do you wanna love somebody)
For his sake put your hate away, take a day(Take a day to love somebody)
Don't play on the Holiday, work to find a better way(Everybody love somebody now)

Oh, everybody sing (Come on)
For Martin Luther King (Ah, yeah)
Oh, let freedom ring (That's right)
For Martin Luther King, now sing

Holiday! Holiday!King Holiday!
Not a day just for some
It's a day for everyone
He had a dream now it's up to you
Because you gotta see it through, and make it come true

Holiday! Holiday! (Mmm)King Holiday!
Not a day just for someIt's a day for everyone
He had a dream now it's up to you
He had a dream now it's up to you
To see it through, to make it come true
Now do it

Listen children of today
Don't think love has gone away
It's in your hearts and minds(How long) Not long
New day will shine
If we just take the chance[His love will glow]
Open up the windows
Let the hero shine
Every day in your life
Yours and mine
Everybody shine, whoa...
Let it shine, let it shine, woo...whoa...oh...

For the future generation, Dr. King's medication
For successful operation is peace for every nation

Sing! Celebrate!

Sing! Sing! Celebrate!

For a King Celebrate!Sing! Sing! Celebrate!

THIS SONG IS TRULY A HIP-HOP CLASSIC AND A PERFECT EXAMPLE OF HOW HIP HOP CAN BE A POSITIVE VEHICLE OF EXPRESSION

This song is credited to Run D.M.C., but several artists sung this song together [like "We Are The World"].. back in the day around late '80s, early 90s ... I only remember New Edition on this song [what sistah didn't have a crush on New Edition? So they def. stood out in the song]

One World, One Heart

For the most part, I only sub for elementary and middle school. During the rare free moments I get, I love to peruse the little libraries [just about] every classroom has.

I found one treasure in one classroom, called One World, One Heart. I noticed the web address, and I had to write it down. Unfortunately they are no longer printing free copies of the colorful book.
You can see this 21 page book of poetry in it's entirety online, here: One World, One Heart.

What is it about?:
One World, One Heart by Susan Polis Schutz
In response to the tragic events of September 11, 2001, writer Susan Polis Schutz and illustrator Stephen Schutz created this comforting and inspiring poetry collection.

Everyone has the same basic needs and emotions. This book encourages people everywhere to put aside their differences and come together as one in peace, understanding, and tolerance.

Doctor? Teacher?

I've always felt that a teacher's job was just as important as, if not more important than, a doctor's job.

As a future full-time teacher ... I've truly realized how very little respect teachers get.

If you're lucky an elementary teacher may get 30 minutes for lunch. Time to breathe ... there's no time for that!!!

Suggestion:

  • Mr. Great Teacher, Ed.
  • Mrs. Great Teacher, Ed.
  • Dr. Great Doctor, MD

Here I will document my life as {da .... da ... da ......... dun!!!!} SUBSTITUTE TEACHER!!!!!

Middle School - Science Class
Test day

The teacher left a message instructing me to spread everyone out, and the students are not to not have anything on their desk.

I always walk around making sure everything is A-OK. Somehow I missed this one kid. He had his notes out. On glance I couldn't tell, because he was sitting by the computer table, along with a stack of papers and notebook tha the teacher left there. On closer inspection, he had his notes on top of one of those stacks!!!!! I took it away. And shortly after, he asked to go to the nurse.

Ok, whatever. I wrote a long note to the nurse, to let her know the situation, it went something like this:

Dear nurse, this is the substitute for ___ . Please be aware that this student is in the middle of a test and he hasn't finished the test. I don't know these students well enough to decipher if they are really sick.....

I was pretty sure she'd send him right back ... and she did!!! He came back within a few minutes. She diagnosed him as being "sick of school." [and drew a happy face next to her note] I don't throw away the passes I send out, when the come back, I leave it for the teacher to examine.

BTW, he didn't finished the test. He had the nerve to write "didn't finish test" on his paper. And if the teacher was naive enough [I doubt it]... to let him finish it the kid never asked for his notes back, and even with his book ... I KNOW he's not going to go home and read the chapter. Yeah, he didn't finish his test, but he also didn't work up until the bell rang. I had another student who continued to work after the bell. I didn't have a problem with that. He said his next class was PE, so I wrote a pass saying that he was finishing his test ... hey, it's his teacher's call, either he can accept it or ignore it and give him a tardy. I'm just the messenger!
